Notice for Presenters at the 2011 ICCS&T Conference

The National Institute of Coal (INCAR-CSIC), on behalf the Spanish Carbon Group,
has the pleasure of inviting you to the International Conference on Coal Science and Technology 2011, in the city of Oviedo, Spain, October 9-13, 2011. This series of conferences is held bi-annually by different host countries around the world. Twelve previous conferences have taken place under the auspices of ICCS, while the last three conferences were organized under the auspices of ICCS&T, Okinawa (2005), Nottingham (2007), and Cape Town (2009).

Coal is expected to continue to play an important role in the energy mix. Its reserves are abundant and distributed all over the world in contrast to oil and natural gas deposits. At the current rate of production, coal reserves are expected to last for about 150-200 years. There are, however, some challenges that coal has to overcome, mainly in relation with the environment. It is hoped that this conference will lead to new research activities and technological advances, so that coal will remain a major energy source during the 21 st century and fulfil its function in a clean an efficienty way.

Oviedo is the capital city of the Principality of Asturias in the northern part of Spain. As such it has much to offer the visitor. It is one of the most pedestrianised cities in Spain, making it very easy to walk around. It boasts the Conference and Exhibition Centre Ciudad de Oviedo which is a new and functional building with excellent facilities for lectures, posters and discussion space as well as refreshment areas.

All of the events of the Conference will be held in this one building. Of equal importance are the numerous hotels which are located close to the Conference Centre, so avoiding the need to use buses or taxis for transport.

We welcome all of you to come to Oviedo.
